Manga Printing Details
I’ve had some questions about the manga printing, and we’re finally able to answer them, so if you’re interested in printing your own dojinshi, have a click!
1. Should the manga be drawn right-to-left or left-to-right?
Either is fine! But if you are planning to have it translated into Japanese, you should probably draw right to left. You can also publish your book in English if you wish (in which case you won’t be charged for translation).
2. How much does printing and shipping cost?
Here is our default printing package, which is at B5 size (182×257 mm) and includes black and white inside pages and superpost 220kg full-color covers with clear or matte PP printing. Page counts come in multiples of 4, and here are the prices by number of copies and page count.

3. What about translation? Will you translate and letter the manga or do we have to do it ourselves?
Unfortunately we cannot letter the manga but we can give you the translation to put into the your work! The translation cost is $8 per page which includes the translation of 20 words per page. Any additional words will be charged for 6 cents a word (we do not count articles such as the, a, and and). Word counts will be based on the English language. We will not charge you for pages with no words on them. If you’d like to translate and letter the book yourself, or print it in English, that’s fine too.
4. Is there a cover sheet required?
Yes, our printing package includes a full-color cover and is one used by many Japanese dojinshi artists, so your book will come out looking just like a Japanese dojinshi.
5. What materials do you need from me?
We prefer digital files, because if you send us originals we will be scanning them anyway. We need images at a resolution between 350 and 440 dpi, and .tif or Photoshop files are preferred (if you’re using Photoshop or Manga Studio make sure to flatten all images before you send them). But if you only have originals, we are happy to take them for no extra charge.
6. What paper size should I draw on?
You are not required to use a specific paper size, but our default printing package (quoted above) is printed at B5 (182×257 mm), which is the size of a typical dojinshi. Many artists draw at A4 (which is slightly larger) and print at B5.
7. If I send in my art, do I still own it? Will I get to keep the money I make selling the book at the convention?
Yes, you still own all rights to your art, even if you have us translate and print it. You even own the rights to our translation, which is considered work for hire, so you may reproduce it with no limits. You also may set your own price for selling the book at the convention, and you may keep 100% of the money you make.

Im interested in printing my own manga. Im from Tijuana, Mexico. And I think your price is a little too much. Can you advice me? My manga will be a 56 page book.
Hi Vladimir,
Thanks for your interest in PJT! We actually only offer this to those attending our Mind Over Manga tour. The prices listed are actually from the Japanese publishing company so we do not have control over them. >_< If you're interested in touring with us, please contact us at go@popjapantravel.com for more details!
im almost finished with my first manga but i got a few questions.
1. will the books be shiped to me?
2. what is the publishing company i need to cantact.
3. should i get a copyright before i send it to the company.
Hi Evan,
If you turn in a manga to us, it will be produced in Japan and you will be able to pick up the additional copies at Comitia! Because we sell the manga directly at the convention, it gets delivered straight to our booth. We are the ones that contact the publishing company in Japan. We will do our best to make sure your work is presented as you intend it. =) As soon as you create your work and put the copyright sign and the date, your work is automatically protected. When we send it to publishing, there will be an additional copyright added for us to print your work.
If you have any other questions or concerns, feel free to email us at go@popjapantravel.com!
Hi i wanna do my own manga, but i had a question about the type of paper it is printed on. i wanted to know what it was called. The type of paper that sailor moon and such is printed on?
The paper is called manga paper and you can find a wide selection at Akadot Retail:
http://www.akadot.com/manga-supplies-comictones-paper-c-31_46.html
The most common size artists use is B4, but if you can work on a smaller size to, which is A4.
Akadot also has many other supplies manga artists use such as screentones and pen nibs.
Hope that helps!
