No Fujoshi Tour 2011?!

May 13, 2010

PJT just took off on their annual Fujoshi Tour – a fangirl tour for all things yaoi! While the yaoi tour has had success in the past years, PJT has decided to discontinue the Fujoshi Tour for 2011. Why the change? We asked PJT’s director, Gigi, what’s in store for the 2011 schedule of group tours.

Will a different tour be taking the place of Fujoshi Paradise next year – no more yaoi tours?

“Actually we’re not trying to get rid of the Yaoi Tour at all – we’re just trying to broaden the spectrum for what kind of people can attend this tour,” Gigi explains.

So what will become of the yaoi tour next year?

G: “A couple of things will change. First, we will be changing the name from Fujoshi Paradise, to Fangirl Paradise. “Fujoshi” is a term for yaoi fans to differentiate themselves with anime otaku, and while we do like making a tour exclusively for yaoi fans, we think we can cover that and more with the term “fangirl”. We want to include those who are interested in Johnnys or male idols in groups such as SMAP and ARASHI, or for those interested in J-dorama actors.”

If it’s changed to Fangirl Paradise, can guys still attend?

G: Yes of course! We’ll take anyone who wants to go to Japan! We know the name is a bit exclusive to girls since it is mostly girls who associate with this type of hobby, but in the end, the tour name is just a theme to give people an idea of what we’ll be focusing the tour activities on. We understand that girls may be more attracted to this tour than guys and some hobbies are like that. We can always accommodate special requests to not participant in certain portions of the tour as well.

Are there any advantages to having an all-girl tour?

G: That’s interesting question – actually in Japan there are some places that you can only enter if you’re a girl! There are these photo sticker booths called purikura found at game centers, and the majority of them only allow women. They have a selection of cosplay costumes girls can change into then take pictures – so maybe they’re trying to avoid guys staring or taking pictures of random women? There are also butler cafes which only allow women, or will only allow men to enter after a certain time.

So if this tour is targeted towards girls, will you have a tour targeted at only guys in the future?

G: Hmm, we will think about it! I wonder what kind of tour that would be!

So sorry to scare all you yaoi fans – looks like the tour next year will not only include hot spots for yaoi, but places to buy (or fawn over) male idol merchandise. =)

  1. Aww… darn! I’ve always wished to go on that tour, and I’m just not into the idol pop bands *at all*. At least blend in a little Visual Kei or something to wash away the saccharine aftertaste for us… *shudders*

  2. Hi kodama! If you’re not interested in idol pop bands you won’t have to worry too much! The events on the tour will focus on yaoi, and we will be going to shopping locations that cater to both yaoi fans and those who are interested in male idols. Additionally we can always cater to your special wants on a tour – just make sure to let us know and we can redirect you!
