Seeing Art through Design Festa

Design Festa Tour doesn’t only offer an experience to go to the art festival but the tour also includes visits to well known museums in Tokyo. PJT will be covering both traditional art as well as contemporary Japanese art. Pop Japan Travel plans to go to the following places: Mitsui Memorial Museum and Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo.

Also expect a visit to the Design Festa main office in Harajuku. There’s a brief description of these places.

Mitsui Memorial Museum

The Mitsui collection consists of art treasure from Japanese and other Asian Art. The artwork has been collect by the Mitsui family through many generations allowing a glimpse of the Japanese cultural heritage through their collection. Some of the exhibition galleries are detailed reconstruction of the interior of the Joan tea ceremony room as well as the National Treasure tea ceremony room long. The Japanese and Asian art works are contrasted with the western architectural setting to emphasis the beauty of the art form.

Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo

This municipal museum is the first public contemporary art museum in Tokyo. There is a large collection of post-war Japanese art as well as international work. These include a permanent collection that presents a study of the progress of 50 years of contemporary art. This begins from the Post-war Japanese avant-garde style to the pop art trends in the 1960s as well as art beyond the 1980s. The collection also includes international work by artists such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichenstein, David Hockney, and others.
