Our Mind Over Manga tour just gets better and better -- we've just added a trip to go see Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea (Gake no ue no Ponyo), the new film by Hayao Miyazaki ("Princess Mononoke," "Spirited Away"), in Japanese theaters! Years ago I saw Spirited Away in theaters on an exchange program and it was an incredible experience, even though I couldn't understand a word of it. The best part -- we'll be able to talk to one of Miyazaki's most beloved collaborators the same week, and of course visit the Ghibli Museum (below).

Two pieces of good news: First, we've extended the deadline for our Mind Over Manga Tour by one more week to give those of you still deciding a chance. Secondly, we've added another optional tour: the Chofu Fireworks Festival on the Tama River! Check out the tour page for more info. Click through for a video of the Chofu fireworks from two years ago -- they really are impressive.

He'll be sitting down to talk with the group, taking us through Nippon Animation, the studio where he worked with Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata on "Anne of Green Gables" and "Future Boy Conan," and introducing some of his staff from "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time!" So apply now to meet an anime legend... and keep checking back for more exciting announcements!

Urawa is an elite high school in Tokyo known for its baseball, but its manga club is also second in Japan in national art competition. We're really aiming to tie American manga artists to every level of the Japanese manga scene, from up-and-coming young people to long-established legends, so more announcements are coming! We're getting together with Dream Shoppe this Friday at 8:30 p.m. at Anime Jungle No. 2 in Little Tokyo to show off photos from our last Lolita Tour, and watch "Sakuran," the movie about Edo-period prostitutes starring loli icon and "Kamikaze Girls" star Anna Tsuchiya.

The movie is based on the manga by Moyocco Anno. I love Tsuchiya, and her music for the "Nana" anime is fabulous. Plus, Shiina Ringo serves as music director for the film. And it's the first foray into film for still photographer Mika Ninagawa.

Anime Jungle No. 2 is located at 325 East 1st St. in downtown LA.
