Akadot Tour 2009
Early Bird Special $100 Discount Through April 30th!!

Join Pop Japan Travel for our first-ever Akadot Tour! Based on the many items for sale at akadot.com, the Akadot Tour is a whirlwind tour of Japan's numerous exciting events that only take place in the summer!

With events including the International Tokyo Toy Show, a summer Matsuri (Japanese festival), dinner at an outdoor beer garden, and an optional extension to the beautiful cities of Yokohama and Kamakura, this tour will take advantage of the special things only available to summer visitors.

And of course, this being a POP culture tour, we will be visiting Miyazaki's Studio Ghibli Museum, shopping at Akihabara, Nakano, Shinjuku, Harajuku, Shibuya, and Ginza, singing karaoke till our throats give out, and visiting Namco's Namja Town, where you can play massively interactive video games, stuff your face with gyoza (meat dumplings) from all over Japan, and cool down from the summer heat with insane ice cream flavors like snake, crab, whisky, and more (don't worry, there's "normal" flavors, too!)

More events to be announced shortly.

Enjoy a free evening and get over the jetlag by exploring Tokyo. Explore the red-light entertainment district of Kabukicho, go shopping at one of many of Shinjuku's massive department stores, or wind the night down with conveyor belt sushi. It's all at your fingertips!
Or, would you rather hit the ground running? Then come with us to Yasukuni Shrine for the Mimata Matsuri, one of the largest summer festivals in Tokyo! There will be tons of Japanese street food (the best kind, in my opinion), beer, traditional Japanese dancing, and neon-lit Japanese lanterns.

Let's Tokyo!
Sightseeing and shopping!
AM: Enjoy a halfday of sightseeing the most famous sights of Tokyo. Visit Asakusa, Tokyo's traditional "downtown" area featuring the marvelous Sensoji Temple, check out the post-modern Asahi Beer building, complete with an artistic representation of beer foam, as well as the home of the emperor of Japan, the Imperial Palace.

PM: We head to Ginza for shopping at Sanrio Gift Gate, featuring the largest selection of Sanrio goods in Japan, many Hello Kitty related items are ONLY available here. Add in a trip to Hakuhinkan, a sprawling 9 floor toy store, for more cute than you can handle! Finish off the day exploring Shibuya, home of the busiest intersection in the world, and featured in movies such as "Lost in Translation" and "Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift."

Day: 47/18/09
Tokyo Toy Show!
TOYS!!!
AM:If there's one thing Japan is "cool" for, it's the amount of toys it produces. Today, we will spend the first half of the day at Tokyo Big Sight for the International Toy Show, one of the biggest toy conventions in the world. You can expect to see some amazing toys, including some hilariously unconventional surprises too!

PM: Because the Toy Show is in Odaiba, one of *the* coolest areas of Tokyo, you will have some free time to explore the area. Ride one of the world's largets ferris wheels, enjoy the huge 3 floor video game arcade, have lunch overlooking Tokyo Bay and Rainbow Bridge, or shop some more at Odaiba's numerous malls (my favorite is Venus Fort!).

Next, we will head to Ikebukuro. Here, you can shop at Otome Road, mecca for all things Yaoi (boys love). There's also an 8 story Animate building for non-yaoi manga and anime fans, some fantastic cosplay shopping, and of course, Namco's Namja Town! Namja Town, produced by gaming giants Namco, is an indoor theme park with interactive gaming rides, an entire floor devoted to deserts, and Gyoza Stadium, where you can try Japan's esteemed meat dumplings from various regions of the country. And oh yes, did I mention some of the craziest ice creams you will ever taste (or maybe spit out?). This place rocks!

Day: 57/19/09
Shopping!
Hittin' the streets!
We will spend today shopping....hard! First, we will visit Akihabara. If you like anime, manga, collectible toys, cosplay, video games and arcades, electronics, or air conditioning units, then Akihabara is THE place to visit. Building after building of stores packed to the brim with Japanese pop culture goods!!

From Akihabara we head to Nakano Broadway, perhaps a lesser known area of Tokyo, but an essential stop for pop culture consumerism. Nakano features lots of stores with authentic anime cels, otaku goods both new and used, manga, cosplay items, and my favorite, vinyl designer toys like Bearbricks, Kubricks, Kid Robot, KAWS/Original Fake, and more!

Next up is Shinjuku, the largest metropolitan district of Tokyo. Indulge your shopping fantasies at its many seeming never-ending department stores, get lost in the neon lights of Tokyo's most infamous entertainment district, Kabukicho, or take in the view from the Tokyo National Diet Building, offering arguably the most spectacular view of Tokyo.

Finish off the day in Harajuku, the fashion center of Tokyo. From endless accessories and cute fashions of Takeshita-dori, to the sneaker shops and hip-hop stylings of Ura-Hara, to the ultra-posh Guccis and Louis Vuittons of Omotesando and Aoyama, if fashion is the question, Harajuku is your answer!

Extension to Yokohama and Kamakura!
Return home or take an optional extension to Yokohama and Kamakura!
AM: Take the train to Yokohama, one of Japan's major port cities, featuring futuristic architecture and Japan's largest Chinatown district. Take a ride to the top of Japan's highest building, the Landmark Tower! Ride roller coasters and log rides at Cosmo World! And of course, tons of shopping and amazing restaurants all at your disposal!!

PM: Then its on to Kamakura, a city dating back to the 1100s. Enjoy a free night to indulge in amazing seafood, have a stroll on the beach, or shop at the many traditional sweets and souvenir shops in this beautiful traditional city.

Enoshima and Kamakura!
Beautiful cities by the water!
AM: Enjoy a walking tour of Enoshima, a brilliant, if not somewhat under-rated, traditional resort town by the ocean. Renowned for its fresh seafood and its relaxed, surfer atmosphere, a visit to Enoshima lets you into a domestic hotspot where Japanese people like to spend their free time.

PM:Check out traditional Japan with a guided tour of ancient Kamakura. We will visit the ever-popular Daibutsu (Big Buddha) statue, Hase Temple, home of the largest wooden statue in Japan, Houkoku temple for a traditional Japanese tea ceremony, and of course, shopping! A great way to wind down from the hustle and bustle of our stay in Tokyo!
