Ice, Ice, Baby! For years the Cold Steel tour has been a fan favorite for anime fans and pop culture fans alike to visit the infamous Sapporo Snow Festival. The festival boasts life-size ice sculptures, anime character snow statues, and igloos you can have a warm meal in. We'll also head off to Tokyo later so we can visit anime town Akihabara, Harajuku, and even the Ghibli Museum. Extend your stay and visit Yokote, for the Kamakura Snow festival and a taste of traditional Japan.

    We depart the urban sprawl of LA on a flight to Tokyo!

  • Soar to Sapporo [-]

    After arriving in Narita International Airport, we'll transfer onto a flight to Sapporo.  Pack your coats on carry-on and get ready for that winter bite!

  • Snow Spree Part 1 [-]

    Let's enjoy the snow all day!

    We will go to the Sapporo Snow Festival, one of Japan's largest winter events.There will be a variety of snow and ice sculptures to appreciate, and you can also have fun with the snow slides and mazes. Oh and don't forget to try some Hokkaido regional delicacies, yum!

     And there's more show to see! An ice sculpture show will be held in Ekimae-dori (Station Avenue), meanwhile, we can see the creative sculptures from the ice sculpture contest. Most importantly, there is a special chance to see the Ice Queen and take photos with her!
  • Snow Spree Part 2 [-]

    Another day full of snow and ice! We will go to Lake Shikotsu Ice Festival. Lake Shikotsu is the northernmost ice-free lake in Japan. Except for those magnificent ice sculptures, we will see a moss-covered cave, which has evergreen draped on the inside and is covered in ice.

     After all the chilly fun, now is time for some warm stuff. We will go to Marukoma Onsen to enjoy the nature hot spring and relax your body.

    At night, we will go to the snow festival again to see another side of snow- the ice sculptures will be illuminated by different colored lights. And of course we will not miss the fireworks show!

  • Sayonara Sapporo, it's Time for Tokyo [-]

    We'll leave the magic of Sapporo snow in our memories as we fly back south to Tokyo.  After checking into the hotel, we'll spend the afternoon touring the city!

    In the evening, you can choose to join us for a trip up scenic Tokyo Tower to catch a glimpse of the city around you. Click on the option link below for details!

  • Tokyo Takeover Round 1 [-]

    Everyone's favorite- Ghibli Museum today!

    There are several activities you can take paryot in at the museum, which include watching a special animation short, Chuuzumo (a story about sumo wrestling mice), seeing exhibits featuring familiar Ghibli films and a special exhibit on the short films shown only at the museum, shopping for Ghibli exclusive merchandise, visiting the robot from Laputa on the rooftop, or lounging in the Ghibli Cafe. The wait to get in the cafe may be a while, so make sure to save your spot early if you want to enter!

    After saying goodbye to Totoro and friends we'll head to Ikebukuro for lunch and take a little break. After that, we are going to another popular area among young people in Tokyo, Shinjuku.

    Namja Town

  • Tokyo Takeover Round 2 [-]

    Next stop, Harajuku - a youthful district where you'll find lolita,visual kei, and cosplayers walking the streets. Spend some time exploring unique stores such as Daiso (Japan's version of a 99 cent store), Kiddyland (an interesting, 6-story toy store), and Laforet (a shopping center filled with all the latest Japanese brands).

    We'll also visit the famed Meiji Jingu Shrine and Yoyogi Park to see different view of Tokyo beside the modern, fashion-oriented side.

    Later that day we'll go to Akihabara (a.k.a. electric town) to browse through the latest Japanese video game, anime and music merchandise. Last but not least, we'll have a farewell dinner so we can all talk about the good times we had during the tour. ^_^

  • Yokote Extension [-]

    Say good-bye to Tokyo as we take Komachi Shinkansen to Omagari. We'll make a stop at the hotel to drop off luggage, then its off to Yokote and attend Kamakura Snow Festival!


    Kamakura is a room made by carving out a mound of snow. In Yokote City, more than 100 kamakura and countless miniature kamakura are made. In the evening, candles will light on in these snow white kamakura which create a quiet and beautiful feeling against the darkness. Along the river in Yokote, you will also see hundreds of small snow lights.

  • Yokote Extension Day 2 [-]

    We'll walk along the streets of Kakunodate, home to a beautifully preserved Samurai district. Later we will go to Tazawako area. The Lake Tawaza, the deepest lake in Japan locates here. We'll have an option for Tazawako Ski and Snowboard Pass.

    In the night, we will experience more beauty of the snow! Kamakura Matsuri again!
