Tour Itinerary

  • Depart LA for Tokyo [-]

We depart the urban sprawl of LA on a flight to Tokyo!

  • Arrive in Japan! Discover Tokyo Nightlife [-]

After changing our dollars into yen, we'll take a bus to our hotel and get checked in. If the jet lag isn't getting to you, join us
for a trip up scenic Tokyo Tower to catch a glimpse of the city around you. Click on the option link below for details!

    Tonight's dining option: an Izakaya!

  • It's Tool Time - Cooking tool time... [-]

Rise and Shine! For our first big day in the city, you'll have the option of waking up early to experience the sights, sounds, and smells of the Tsukiji Fish Market, as well as sample a taste of the day's fresh catch.

In the afternoon we'll be making soba! Learn from the pros how to make tasty noodles (and eat them too).
Next it's off to Kappabashi - land of fake foods and cooking tools! There's a tool for every kitchen task in Japan and this is the place to get it! We'll also see elaborately made food displays, so life-like that it'll probably work up your appetite. After shopping to your tummy's desires, feel free to join today's hearty dining option: Omurice!

  • Tokyo Treats - Part 1 [-]

There's nothing like fresh baked bread in the morning! Today's breakfast option: the famed Ginza Kimuraya - where we'll find fresh out the oven breads and pastries. They're well known for their Anpan, or sweet bread with azuki bean paste inside. Enjoy some free time in Ginza for some shopping before our next destination...

Akihabara! This otaku town is sure to please the anime and electronic fans, but what about the food fans? Not to worry, today's lunch option is an Akiba gem: Ramen! Enjoy authentic ramen in our favorite little not-to-be-named restaurant. Why can't we disclose the name? Well we don't want EVERYONE showing up there!
If you're not in the mood for noodles (or have an aversion to pork) there's lots of other fun dining options too - like cosplay cafes & maid cafes! We'll also head over to the Ueno / Ameyoko for more food fun. Street vendors along Ameyoko sell all kinds of goods, and among them are yummy snack stands.

The day doesn't end there! You may have to loosen your belt for today's dining option: Festival Booths at the Torikoe Yoru Matsuri! Talk it up with the food vendors and locals as we eat and celebrate.
  • Tokyo Treats - Part 2 [-]

Today it's breakfast on the go! Pick something up at the local conbini (convenience store) which stocks fresh sushi, onigiri, and warm drinks, or get some bread from Andersen Bakery at the train station. Then it's off to Ikebukuro where we'll go through the department store first floor and see the extensive food selections. Have some free time to shop in Sunshine City Mall, at Tokyo Hands (a store full of Japanese useful items), or go to a cat cafe before visiting Namja Town! This indoor theme park has three specialties - ice cream, gyoza, and desserts. Here you can try all the different flavors of ice cream and gyoza - flavors as wide and vast as jelly beans!

Next is Chiba where we'll get to take a tour of the Kikkoman Factory! See how the soy sauce you love is made, and even take some home for free!
At night it's the dinner you've been waiting for! Dine in Iron Chef Italian Masahiko Kobe's restaurant Massa! You'll get a grand fixed menu which includes 2 appetizers, 2 pastas, 1 main dish, dessert or cheese plate, and expresso. Meet Kobe himself and even take a picture with him!
  • Eat Like There's No Tomorrow! [-]

All tour meals today are included in the price! Breakfast is served in upstairs cafe of Shibuya Patisserie Viron. Enjoy a quiche or select a french classic sandwich to start your day on the right foot.

Have some free time in Shibuya before we board the train for Kamakura! Go with the flow as noodles are literally streamed your way! We'll also do some sightseeing at Hachimangu Shrine, and if you're interested, learn the proper etiquette and take part in a tea ceremony!

Before the day is done we'll spend our last Tokyo dinner at a beer garden in Shinjuku. Feel free to take advantage of the all-you-can-drink plan and enjoy the rooftop view as we reminisce on all the good times we had this tour!

  • Extend your stay (and broaden your palate!) in Kansai [-]

If you'd like to get a taste of the Kansai region, join us for a trip to Nagoya, Osaka, Kobe, and Kyoto!  We start the day with a Shinkansen (bullet train) ride to Kyoto. Feel free to take a nap or purchase a bento breakfast on board!

We'll check into our new home for the night - a Ryokan (Japanese style hotel) in Nagoya. Today's lunch option: Miso Katsu and Ebi Fry - with crust so light and crispy that you'll wonder if it was cooked in oil at all. Next up is a tour of the Kirin Beer Factory! See how the famous Japanese beer is made, and of course, free beer (if you're old enough)! We'll walk off lunch and the beer on our visit to Nagoya Castle.
End our first day in Kansai with a traditional hot pot dinner at the ryokan! Make it festive and dress up in the yukata provided.

  • Kansai Specialties [-]

Next destination: Osaka! First we'll tour the Umeda area, and later for lunch we'll be making a stop at our favorite place in Kansai, Tako No Tetsu, where you'll get to try Osaka's specialties: Okonomiyaki and Takoyaki.

Wrap up Osaka with a visit to the Glico Factory, then we'll end the night with a stop at Kobe. Tonight's paid dinner: Kobe Beef Yakiniku & Steaks!

  • Kyoto Cool Down [-]

Our last full day in Japan we'll take in the beauty of Kyoto. We'll start making our way to Kiyomizu Temple where the street vendors line the pathway up to the main gates.

Next we'll go to Geisha district, Gion, home to the cultural arts of tea ceremony, ikebana (flower arrangement), and bunraku (puppet performance). Optional dining stop here: Shabu Shabu & Sukiyaki! We'll make one more temple stop to Kinkakuji, the infamous Golden Pavilion, to wrap up the afternoon.

Afterwards we'll head back to Kyoto Station where you can peruse the boutiques or take a walk through the Skyway tunnel for a night city view. For our last dinner we'll head back to Osaka where you can pick your own dining option, or have the option of eating Kushiage (various kinds of meat on skewers). Head back to the Ryokan to pack all your great finds, or sing the night away at a local karaoke bar.

  • Homeward Bound [-]

We'll wake up early to board the Shinkansen for the trip back to the airport. Say bye to Japan and head for home.
