Odaiba, Tokyo. Seen from the Rainbow Bridge.Situated near Shinagawa in Tokyo Bay, Odaiba is a man-made island that was redeveloped as a shopping and entertainment destination in the 1990s. The island is home to Tokyo Big Sight, the massive convention center that plays home to major comic and manga conventions such as Comiket, Comitia, and industry events like Tokyo International Anime Fair. Shopping malls on the island, such as Aqua City and Venus Fort, are usually packed with young people flocking to trendy name brand stores and attractions like Joypolis – a gigantic arcade with rides in addition to all the latest arcade machines. The Oedo Onsen Monogatari, a man-made hot spring that features games and festival-style attractions to entertain visitors, is also situated on the island.
