I've had some questions about the manga printing, and we're finally able to answer them, so if you're interested in printing your own dojinshi, have a click!

Manga Printing Details
May 21st, 2008
1. Should the manga be drawn right-to-left or left-to-right?
Either is fine! But if you are planning to have it translated into Japanese, you should probably draw right to left. You can also publish your book in English if you wish (in which case you won't be charged for translation).
2. How much does printing and shipping cost?
Here is our default printing package, which is at B5 size (182×257 mm) and includes black and white inside pages and superpost 220kg full-color covers with clear or matte PP printing. Page counts come in multiples of 4, and here are the prices by number of copies and page count.

3. What about translation? Will you translate and letter the manga or do we have to do it ourselves?
We will letter the pages in Japanese ourselves (with sound effects and asides subtitled under the frame). After you submit the manga in English you don't need to do anything else. Lettering and translation cost $8 per page plus 6 cents a word. We will not charge you for pages with no words on them. If you'd like to translate and letter the book yourself, or print it in English, that's fine. We won't charge your for translation or lettering.
4. Is there a cover sheet required?
Yes, our printing package includes a full-color cover and is one used by many Japanese dojinshi artists, so your book will come out looking just like a Japanese dojinshi.
5. What materials do you need from me?
We prefer digital files, because if you send us originals we will be scanning them anyway. We need images at a resolution between 350 and 440 dpi, and .tif or Photoshop files are preferred (if you're using Photoshop or Manga Studio make sure to flatten all images before you send them). But if you only have originals, we are happy to take them for no extra charge.
6. What program will you use for lettering?
We will be using Photoshop. (Since we are subtitling sound effects there really isn't any need to use Illustrator.)
7. What paper size should I draw on?
You are not required to use a specific paper size, but our default printing package (quoted above) is printed at B5 (182×257 mm), which is the size of a typical dojinshi. Many artists draw at A4 (which is slightly larger) and print at B5.
8. If I send in my art, do I still own it? Will I get to keep the money I make selling the book at the convention?
Yes, you still own all rights to your art, even if you have us translate and print it. You even own the rights to our translation, which is considered work for hire, so you may reproduce it with no limits. You also may set your own price for selling the book at the convention, and you may keep 100% of the money you make.
